SSP Director Reflects on Significance of Juneteenth Independence Day

18 June 2024

From Vice Adm. Johnny Wolfe Jr.

Strategic Systems Programs' Director Vice Adm. Johnny Wolfe Jr. commemorates the Juneteenth Independence Day. Also known as "Freedom Day" or "Emancipation Day," the occasion commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.

Juneteenth, also known as "Freedom Day," "Emancipation Day" or "Juneteenth Independence Day," commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. On this holiday, we celebrate the courage and bravery of abolitionists who made it their mission to deliver the promise of America for all Americans. We honor the strength and resilience of generations of activists who have advanced the need for our Nation to recognize Juneteenth as a way to reconcile our past as we build a new American future together.

Every day, all of us have an opportunity to help make good on our nation's promise of equality and justice for all. I am honored to lead SSP's efforts as we work to ensure that each day, we move closer to achieving that goal.

With Respect,
Johnny Wolfe Jr.
Vice Admiral, USN
