FASLANE, Scotland - Mr. John Chow, forth from left, general engineer for Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), took part in an event between His Majesty King Charles III and Royal Navy submariners and their families at Coulport, part of HM Naval Base Clyde, on 19 September, 2024. King Charles III visited Coulport to show his appreciation of the Royal Navy’s submariners and their families, thanking them for their valuable service. The king also met with a group of Gold Deterrent Pin holders, who were recognized for spending the greatest amount of time under water while on strategic patrol.

SILVERDALE, Wash. (July 22, 2024) - Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) Director Vice Adm. Johnny Wolfe Jr., (right of center) visits with Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific (SWFPAC) Commander Capt. Keith Fahlenkamp (front left), staff from SWFPAC, and contractor staff from Skookum Contract Services at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor. Through close collaboration with industry, SWFPAC executed critical updates to its fleet of armed fighting vehicles specifically high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs) that provide security for our nation's strategic assets. This work—accomplished in tandem with this partnership—validated the need to address shortfalls for the HMMWVs and doubled the number of safe and operable vehicles available for the security mission with a sense of urgency. SWFPAC's work with partners to improve operational readiness in support of its security mission ensures greater surety for the nation's nuclear deterrence mission. SWFPAC—SSP’s naval shore facility in the Pacific—assembles and deploys Trident II D5 missiles aboard Fleet Ballistic Missile submarines (SSBNs) while safeguarding the nation’s strategic assets. SSP is the Navy command that provides cradle-to-grave lifecycle support for the sea-based leg of the nation’s nuclear triad. Through close collaboration with industry, SWFPAC executed critical updates to its fleet of armed fighting vehicles specifically high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs) that provide security for our nation's strategic assets. This work—accomplished in tandem with this partnership—validated the need to address shortfalls for the HMMWVs and doubled the number of safe and operable vehicles available for the security mission with a sense of urgency. SWFPAC's work with partners to improve operational readiness in support of its security mission ensures greater surety for the nation's nuclear deterrence mission. SWFPAC—SSP’s naval shore facility in the Pacific—assembles and deploys Trident II D5 missiles aboard Fleet Ballistic Missile submarines (SSBNs) while safeguarding the nation’s strategic assets. Investing in Future Generations: SSP Receives Hands-On STEM Outreach Training at the US Naval Academy

Mr. Marvin Heart is presented with the 50 Year Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) pin Vice Admiral Johnny R. Wolfe, Jr., Director Strategic Systems Programs. The FBM Service Pin Program was established in 1968 as a means of granting special recognition to military, civilian, and contractor personnel who have made significant contributions to the FBM program. These lapel pins are awarded for each decade of creditable service, along with a certificate signed by the Director, Strategic Systems Programs. Fifty years is the longest service length eligible for this recognition. To date, SSP has awarded 53 50 Year FBM pins.

Strategic Systems Programs Awards Rare 50 Year Fleet Ballistic Missile Pins

BANGOR, Wash. (August 18, 2023) - Master-at-Arms 1st Class Jerel F. Laya is presented with the FY2022 Strategic Systems Programs Sailor of the Year Award by LtCol Ian Dunlap, Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, Bangor. Sailor of the Year candidates represent the highest performers of the entire Strategic Systems Programs enterprise. Laya’s contributions directly supported SSP’s mission of executing Naval Nuclear Weapons Program Technical Authority for Department of the Navy nuclear weapons and Nuclear Weapons systems, as well as its regulatory oversight of the Navy Nuclear Deterrence Mission. MAs supporting the SSP mission at Bangor are integrated into the MCSFBn as an integral part of the multi-layered capabilities ensuring the nuclear weapons and nuclear weapons systems security at Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific. Approximately 10 percent of the Navy’s MA force supports the SSP mission between the two SWFs.
