Student Internship Program
SSP’s Student Intern Program (SIP) seeks to expose students to jobs in the
federal civil service by providing meaningful developmental work at the beginning of their careers. The program will allow the flexibility required to accommodate the needs for students to complete temporary work, perform specific meaningful task in a traditional summer job setting.
By exposing students to the work, culture, and mission of SSP in a meaningful and fulfilling way, the intention of the program is to provide them with the opportunity to transition into the development employee program once they graduate. In addition, there is also an opportunity to obtain a full performance role at SSP upon program completion.
Application Period: All-Year (Continuous)
Duration:
June – August (approximately 10-12 weeks) with opportunity for conversion to a Developmental Position or Full Career Ladder Position.
Salary:
NH-I: $21,986 - $39,361 (GS 04-Step 10 equivalent)
Location:
Washington, DC; Pittsfield, MA; Kings Bay, GA; Cape Canaveral, FL; Denver, CO; Bangor, WA

Developmental Employee Program
SSP’s Developmental Employee Program serves as SSP’s premier resource for developing a new competent, diverse, and highly skilled workforce that can receive invaluable knowledge from an experienced workforce, as well a reciprocating much desired enthusiasm and inspiration throughout SSP’s “know” change culture. The goal of the program is for participants to elevate into full-performance roles at SSP.
Application Period: All-Year (Continuous)
Duration: Full-Time (24 Months) with opportunity for reassignment to a Full-Performance Level Position.
Salary: NH-II: $33,878 - $80,737 (GS 5-11)

HBCU/MI Internship Program
In Summer 2022, SSP established its HBCU/MI Outreach Cohort, which seeks to expand HBCU/MI recruitment and support STEM activities at institutions historically underrepresented in Navy outreach efforts.
In partnership with Department of the Navy (DON) Historically Black Colleges and Universities/Minority Institutions (HBCU/MI) initiative, SSP’s HBCU/MI Internship Program seeks to provide HBCU/MI students exposure to jobs in the federal civil service by providing meaningful developmental work at the beginning of their careers.
Application Period: December – January
Duration: 10 Weeks (June – August)
Location: Washington, DC
Intern Stipend Amount: $850/Week per Intern for a total of 10 Weeks. (Totaling $8,500/ per intern over 10 Weeks)
Intern Housing Amount: $400/ Week per intern for a total of 10 Weeks. (Totaling $4,000/ per intern over 10 Weeks)
Intern Travel Stipend Amount: $1,500 (Travel to the lab and return back to home of record)
